Candidates must hold a professional degree in Agronomic Engineering, Forestry Engineering, Biological Engineering, Biotechnology, or Biology, and a Ph.D. in Engineering, Biotechnology, Biosciences, Entomology, or Agricultural Sciences. Equivalent combinations of training that strongly integrate these areas will also be considered.

Applicants are expected to have teaching and research experience in entomology, with a demonstrable potential or a track record in the design and implementation of biological control strategies using areas of knowledge such as—but not restricted to—biochemistry, biotechnology, or metabolomics, and oriented towards integrated pest management in agricultural systems. Successful candidates must demonstrate their capability to apply these methodologies in the field, with proficiency in experimental design and statistical analysis. The ability to manage large volumes of data using analytical tools is strongly desirable. Preference will be given to candidates with a demonstrated record in these areas. However, all candidates with a strong and genuine affinity for entomology and biological control—through research, teaching, and applied practice—are encouraged to apply.

About the Natural Systems and Sustainability Area

The Natural Systems and Sustainability thrust area encompasses the comprehensive study of planetary systems and their sustainable utilization for human well-being. This interdisciplinary field integrates the scientific characterization of Earth's interconnected spheres (e.g., biosphere, geosphere, atmosphere, hydrosphere) through both novel and established methodologies involving field, laboratory, remote sensing and analytical approaches. Our area applies rigorous scientific methods to understand natural processes and ecosystem functioning, while simultaneously addressing the critical challenge of sustainably harnessing nature's contributions to people. The research and educational activities within this thrust area aim to create science-based solutions that support the sustainable interaction between human societies and natural systems, ensuring the long-term health of both planetary and human systems under the three pillars of sustainability: environmental protection, economic development, and social responsibility.
