This profile focuses on the technological evolution of production systems, including automation, digitalization of production processes, and the integration of emerging Industry 4.0 technologies. 

Applicants should demonstrate interest and strong potential to teach and develop undergraduate and graduate courses related to these topics, as well as to mentor students in laboratory and project-based learning environments. 

Applicants should also demonstrate experience or strong potential in areas such as manufacturing systems, automation, digital manufacturing technologies, or production system simulation, as well as an interest in collaborating with industry. 

Experience with technologies such as industrial automation, robotics, manufacturing system simulation, industrial IoT, or digitalization of manufacturing processes will be considered an advantage; however, candidates are not expected to cover all these areas. Applicants with strengths in one or several of these domains are encouraged to apply. 

Candidates are expected to demonstrate the potential to develop independent and collaborative research and consulting activities related to advanced manufacturing and Industry 4.0, preferably in collaboration with industry. 

About the Product and Experience Design Area 

The Product and Experience Design Area brings together interdisciplinary knowledge around human-centered design to imagine, develop, and transform products, services, and experiences that improve people’s lives and strengthen organizations through an integral perspective. We research, educate, and apply knowledge in user experience, strategic design, innovation, advanced manufacturing, digital technologies, and technological integration, combining complementary perspectives that encompass the appearance and aesthetic qualities of products and services, their functionality and user experience, their manufacturability and technological feasibility, the collaborative processes aimed at understanding user needs and shaping relevant services, as well as innovation, strategy, and the organizational value of design. From this diversity of approaches, we work on the design of physical products, digital experiences, and services with a collaborative and human vision. We believe in the power of design to create value within organizations, connect with the real needs of people, and contribute to a more inclusive, sustainable, and conscious society.
