Senior Network Engineer- Ingeniero de Red/Medellín

🌍Role purpose

The Senior Network Engineer is a principal-level technical authority responsible for designing, operating, and scaling the ISP’s Metro Ethernet and backbone networks. This role demands CCIE/JNCIE-level expertise with deep hands-on experience in service provider architectures, routing, MPLS, traffic engineering, and high-availability designs. The Senior Network Engineer ensures network reliability, scalability, and efficiency while collaborating closely with Engineering, NOC, Automation, and Expansion teams.

🛠️Key Responsibilities

• Lead the architecture and evolution of the ISP backbone and Metro Ethernet access layers.

• Define scalable and deterministic L2/L3 service models: L2VPN, L3VPN, EVPN, wholesale transport, enterprise service.

• Own design and operations of the routing architecture: BGP, IS-IS, OSPF, MPLS, (LDP/RSVP/SR).

• Design and optimize Metro Ethernet aggregation layers at scale

• Act as the final escalation point for the most complex ISP incidents.

• Develop automation scripts and tooling (Python preferred) to streamline operations

• Lead capacity forecasting for L2/L3 services, interconnects, and peering/transit

• Work with Optical Engineering to align IP/MPLS routes with transport-layer evolution.

  📚 Skills & Technical Requirements

Mandatory Technical Skills

• CCIE/JNCIE (Service Provider) or equivalent deep real-world expertise.

• 8+ years in ISP networking (carrier, backbone, or metro provider).

• Expert-level knowledge in:

○ BGP, IS-IS, OSPF

○ MPLS (LDP, RSVP-TE, Segment Routing)

○ EVPN, VXLAN bridging, L2VPN/L3VPN

○ QoS, hierarchical scheduling, shaping/policing

○ Ethernet switching at scale (VLAN, QinQ, STP variants, LACP)

• Strong Python scripting skills and experience automating network tasks.

•  Hands-on experience with automation frameworks: Ansible, Nornir, NETCONF/REST, GitOps models

•  Experience running multi-vendor ISP networks with diverse platforms and OS behaviors.

• Strong documentation, communication, and cross-team collaboration abilities.
